Xbox One owners are reporting that Middle-earth: Shadow of War is pre-loading onto their consoles even at this early stage, and have just received a 33GB update for the privilege.
It is unclear as to whether this will be available across all platforms at this point in time, as so far it appears that it is just on Xbox One. The source for this comes from the official Shadow of War community, some of who may have mistaken the pre-loading for an early release.
The reason as to why this is only on Xbox One so far is unclear, though it could be down to a deal between Microsoft and Warner Bros to all Xbox One owners pre-load onto their systems before anyone else.
Whether or not such a deal would be worth it for the sake of being able to load a game onto your console three weeks early is all down to personal preference. It isn’t exactly the same or as appealing as having early access to the game, but it’s at least something, given that you can dive straight into the game as soon as it launches. Of course, this doesn’t necessarily appeal as a benefit if you have fast internet and it will only take say 20 minutes to install, but it’s nice to have it sat there ready to go.
