There was a time when wrestling games were one of the worst in the video game world in terms of genre. The games weren’t that deep, hard to control, and hardly felt like wrestling games. Now, recent games have turned them into something special. But one team of indie game developers are hoping to push that to a whole new level, and possibly a level that’s never been gone to before, for they have made what could be the first ever wrestling RPG. And to make sure they get it made, they’ve gone to Kickstarter. This is Suplex Saga.

Now you might be thinking, “How can a wrestling RPG happen?” Well, as the team happily shares, the game plays as a mix of Final Fantasy and Paper Mario with the theme of wrestling. “Matches” are RPG battles, but ones that have the wrestling moves. All your characters are wrestlers, each with their own style, personality, moves, and abilities. It’ll be your job to “win the watch” by winning the battle you’re given. Here’s a look at the gameplay.

What’s more, Suplex Saga takes the idea of wrestling and makes it into a full-on RPG story. You play as the son of two famous wrestlers trying to make his own way in life. But, his wrestling promotion gets “invaded” and destroyed. So now, you must gather a team of wrestlers and go destroy those who tried to destroy your life! You’ll meet a variety of interesting wrestlers, from hardcore ladies to cat-mask luchadores, and that’s just your allies!

As you can see, this game is truly meant to be something special, and the more funds they raise, the more they can make it that way. Their goal is to raise $60,000, if you think you’d like to step into an RPG wrestling ring, then go ahead and support them.
