Wargaming and Dark Horse Comics have announced the first comic issue of the MMO hit World of Tanks. The highly anticipated World of Tanks: Roll Out series will be available both in store and digitally from on August 31st, marking the first ever comic book series to be based on the free-to-play wargaming franchise.
The story will be handled by Garth Ennis (Preacher, The Punisher) in what will be a historically-based war tale emphasising the thrills and tension of the armoured conflict elements found in the game. Set in 1944, World of Tanks: Roll Out follows a group of young British tankers as they make the push into post D-Day Normandy, as they are flanked by German forces at every turn in a battle-worn France.
“As we explored the idea of a World of Tanks comic book, the first priority was ensuring that we told an authentic and historically based tale of combat that was in line with Warming’s commitment to military authenticity,” Erik Whiteford said, Wargaming’s Director of Marketing. “Having the leading writer in the war comic genre, Garth Ennis, and legendary illustrator Carlos Ezquerra, as the creative team behind World of Tanks: Roll Out guaranteed the execution of a story in true Wargaming fashion; gritty and packed with realistic and pulse-pounding tank combat.”
To celebrate the release, the World of Tanks shop on console will be offering bundles for a limited time featuring the British Cromwell known as “Snakebite” pulled straight from the comics. Issue number 1 will be available in comic book stores in North America, Australia, Western and Eastern Europe on August 31st, which will be followed up by four more intense issues of tank combat.
