Winners of Warframe’s Cosplay on a Budget Announced

The free-to-play sci-fi shooter Warframe has put on their weekly Prime Time live stream today. Along with the usual gameplay and Warframe-related discussions, Community Coordinator Megan Everett and Community Producer Rebecca Ford announced the winners of the Cosplay on a Budget contest.

The contest—announced on the 19th of May—challenged fans to create Warframe-centric cosplay on a $20 USD budget. There were a number of rules for the contest, including the required list of all materials used for the cosplay. The winners received varying amounts of Platinum depending on their ranking.

The fifth place prize of 100 Platinum went to Ross Walters on Twitter for their Equinox cosplay. Fourth prize was 250 Platinum, given to forum user Uzenvard for their very obscure cosplay in reference to John Prodman. Third prize of 500 Platinum went to Ch4ng3l1ng for their portrayal of the well-known Grinner Shield Lancer enemy. The second prize of 750 Platinum went to forum user Loki_Speight for their Nova and baby Deathcube cosplay. Clearly, the cute factor came into play here.

Warframe Cosplay Contest AncientAnd finally, the first prize of 1000 Platinum was awarded to Helix_Prime for their very sad-looking  Ancient. This cosplay looks somewhat like a melted Jim Henson creation and I suppose for $20, that’s about as good as it gets. For anyone who knows what Ancients looks like in-game, it is pretty obvious what this cosplay is attempting to portray. Overall, this contest brought a ton of laughter to the Warframe live streams and it seems like the participants had fun—and isn’t that what matters?

The contest was meant to serve as promotion for Warframe’s now annual convention held in London, Ontario. The convention, named TennoCon, will be hosted on the 8th of July and features a number of panels and activities for fans, one of which is a fully fledged cosplay contest with cash prizes. If you’re curious what other cosplays were submitted for this budget contest, check out the 6 pages of submissions on the Warframe forums. And if you want more Warframe news, be sure to read up on the comic series announced for the game earlier this week.
