At E3 2017, the gaming world was shocked when Nintendo unveiled not one, but two new Metroid games. One for the Nintendo Switch in Metroid Prime 4, and one for the 3DS in Metroid: Samus Returns. The former is going to be a first-person game like the original Metroid Prime trilogy that was on the Gamecube and Wii. Meanwhile Metroid: Samus Returns is a 2D side-scroller like the series has been the majority of its life. Now, Samus Returns is a remake of the second Metroid games, and that has people thinking.
Thinking what? Well, Metroid has had some remakes/updates over the years. The Metroid Prime Trilogy was one. It got bundled and upgraded a bit for the Wii in some ways. Then Metroid: Zero Mission took the original Metroid game and not only boosted itself graphically but added new content that gave us Zero Suit Samus. So, this has people like Commentsonvideogames wondering on Reddit:
“If Metroid: Samus Returns is well-received and sells well, is there any chance we’ll see similar remakes for Zero Mission and Super Metroid?”
