At Blizzcon 2016, Blizzard announced a whole bunch of new features that would be coming to Diablo III in 2017. This included seasons coming to consoles, the Necromancer class, and the introduction of Challenge Rifts among others.
Challenge Rifts give players the chance to try out a particular build to try out for themselves. Each week, the new feature will snapshot a player’s build for others to use in a static dungeon. However, Diablo community member RDS has questioned how the new feature will remain authentic and loyal to the established method of Diablo gameplay. An excerpt of the post reads:
How is “this” Diablo? I guess its natural for people to work their way up to timed runs when gear because a non-issue, and I really am in favor of a way to give players a chance to showcase their mechanical abilities, but is this really the way to go? Why not just create a new, fixed rift for each challenge and let us play them with our own characters? Oh, that’s right — because it still wouldn’t be an even footing because of Paragon. Maybe it is a little more even during a season because we start from 0, but still, the point stands.
Some Diablo fans reading this will probably feel the same as myself, in that surely at this moment in time it would be rather premature to criticise a feature that may be way off in terms of when it actually makes its way into Diablo III. So much so that technical support member MissCheetah weighed in with the following:
basing your concerns off of something you have no knowledge of (team size) is kind of silly. You don’t know the team size and you don’t know how the Crift feature will work. Making a thread about it seems a bit premature and dramatic.
This was after RDS claimed that the Challenge Rifts would snapshot a character/rift from the ladder, to which MissCheetah responded that nothing of the sort was ever claimed by Blizzard.
Its a simple case of wait and see for now as to what the new feature will bring, and its far too early to criticise something so early. If not, then Diablo III has plenty more to offer other than Challenge Rifts if it doesn’t take your fancy.
