Warframe, the free-to-play third-person shooter from Digital Extremes, was updated quite recently. In that updated, the Jack of All Trade frame, Oberon, was reworked and players seemed to focus all their energy on scrutinizing the character’s revisited abilities. In fact, we here at MMOexaminer also did exactly that! It’s been a few days now since the initial update, and players have had a chance to check out the new weapon that also came out with the Oberon update, and it looks like the community is displeased with it.
The Cycron is a secondary beam weapon locked for players until they hit Mastery Rank 9. It seems to want to be built for status with high heat damage and status chance, and has an infinite supply of ammo… well, sort of. This infinite ammo simply means that the gun regenerates its ammo instead of needing ammo drops in a mission. It can regen in a character’s hand or in a holster and it sounds pretty cool in theory. However, as time goes on, complaints are cropping up everywhere including the Warframe forums and more recently, Reddit.
The Reddit OP quite frankly asks why the Cycron even exists. Essentially the argument against the weapon is that you spend more time reloading than you do shooting. A comment on the Warframe forum post tells us that you can shoot for approximately 4 seconds before reloading with takes 5 seconds. When you break it down like that, it sounds pretty ridiculous. However, a particular moment from the 90th dev stream and one Warframe forum commenter might have the answer as to why this weapon is the way it is.
At 8:48, the Warframe devs talk about the idea of implementing an equip state where players could have any one-handed melee weapon equipped while also holding a one-handed secondary weapon. If this is added to the game, the reload speed for the Cycron might not be as annoying.
This doesn’t necessarily fix the problem though. 4 seconds of shooting for a 5 second reload is ludicrous. Modding the weapon with Fast Hands helps, but then of course you’re sacrificing damage. If this weapon were buffed it would make the most sense to either cut the reload time or increase the magazine capacity, but does it need it? What do you think? Let us know in the comments!
