During the 90th dev stream on the official Warframe Twitch channel, the developers for the co-op third-person shoot, Warframe, announced a new playable character that will be added into the game. The nameless “priest frame” can be seen in concept art in the video below which has been time-stamped for convenience.
The frame is obviously designed with the image of a priest or a cleric in mind. According to Rebecca Ford, Community Producer for Digital Extremes, “this is a support frame that relies on high-precision shooting, [is] always ready to protect a squad, and sacrifice himself if necessary.” Along with the actual frame is a set of weapons, a melee and what looks to be a secondary weapon. While the devs didn’t touch on these, we can clearly see that it’s a pistol of sorts and a kind of flail. Given DE’s track record, we likely won’t have much information on those until the frame’s release.
The devs then go on to say that there will be a quest attached to this new priest frame and according to DE’s Creative Director, Steve Sinclair, it’s an “interesting count-point to Octavia”. He goes on to say that the quest will have a “darker score” and will incorporate the Red Veil syndicate, which makes a lot of sense. The Red Veil are known to be pretty dark and violent themselves, seeking to purge the universe for what they perceive as the greater good. We’ve been promised that this quest will be chock-full of lore, so that’s certainly getting some fans excited.
The idea of a priest frame is pretty cool, but as I’ve stated in previous articles, I just wish DE would turn their attention to the things that need fixing before putting in brand new content. Despite that, though, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t excited at the prospect of more solid in-game lore. In traditional DE style, we have no idea when this frame is set to arrive in game. Could be in a week, could be three months from now. But once we know, you’ll know!
