For many Xbox One owners, Cuphead has been one of the most anticipated and long awaited titles to come to the platform. The retro-style platformer finally became available yesterday, bringing the eye-catching 1930s-esque cartoon game to both Xbox One and PC. There is a secret mode to be unlocked, though the method does contain a few spoilers, so don’t read on if you don’t want to know what happens.
In the World 3 hub in Cuphead, near the docks you will come across a turtle. Speaking to him offers hints that there is a special bonus should you clear the game’s platforming levels without shooting.
By completing a level without shooting, you will receive a P for your grade, which is denoted by the flag you raise for completing the level. Do this for all six platforming stages, which includes Forest Follies, Treetop Trouble, Funfair Fever, Funhouse Frazzle, Perilous Piers and Rugged Ridge. After you’ve done this, head back to the turtle from World 3 and you will unlock a black-and-white mode with audio filters for additional splash of vintage.
It will take some doing to pull this off, so you’ll need to plan out the Charms and Super weapons accordingly to unlock the secret mode. To unlock it, you only need to avoid shooting your weapon, so you can use dashing, parries and the Invincibility Super and still earn a P grade. For those who are out for even more of a challenge than the one Cuphead already presents, there is also an Expert mode to be unlocked after completing the game.
