Looking forward to the upcoming hack-and-slash video game from Ubisoft? Here are some useful tips to take onto the battlefield in For Honor.
ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS = INSTANT DEATH!
Watch out! If you find yourself backing towards a cliff edge, an opponent will show no hesitation in throwing you off and counting the seconds until impact. You’ll soon be respawning if you get to close to a spiked wall or dwell near a flaming cart or tree with enemies knocking around.
DIFFERENT DYNAMICS FOR DIFFERENT HEROES
It’s important to know your enemy, and how to utilise each class of character before heading into battle. Though the basic rhythms of blocking and slashing apply to each faction, all of them handle in varying ways. Where Vanguards hold their stances indefinitely, Assassins have a depleting meter that eventually causes the guard to drop. Overall these differing tactics offer a change up dynamic to the game, which will require you to acclimate yourself to each faction on your playthrough.
SERIAL BLOCKER? BE WARY OF COMBOS!
This also applies in attacking, of course. A good combo will make you feel unstoppable when landing the right combination of slashes, which in turn lights up your weapon and triggering an unblockable attack. If you find yourself defending against this form of onslaught, an exclamation point will appear for you to dodge as soon as possible.
REVIVING TEAMMATES IS CRUCIAL TO VICTORY
Though it isn’t always feasible in the heat of battle, reviving your fellow warriors can be vital in turning the tide of the fight. Though it may be tempting to go for glory yourself, you’ll give you and your team a better chance of winning by taking up the medic role when the numbers are stacked against you.
MAKE USE OF YOUR UNTIMELY DEMISE
That’s right, even in death you can make yourself useful. Whilst bleeding out, the camera can be navigated around the map, which can be very useful if you are communicating with teammates. This tactical view could be the difference between a friend maintaining control of a certain point, or being carved into pieces.
USE CAPTURE POINTS TO YOUR ADVANTAGE
Similar to the many, many online shooters out there, capturing particular territories is a must heading towards victory. For Honor does offer an added incentive to do so as well, as the capture points your team have taken over will begin healing you immediately once you enter them, and gives you a steady stream of points to go with it.
For Honor arrives on Xbox One, PS4 and PC on Valentine’s Day 2017, with a closed alpha scheduled for September 15-18.
