With the global reach of Overwatch, there are players of the game in countries all over the world, with each country having to play under different circumstances. That’s just the way it is. However, there are times when that country has unique problems compared to everyone else. Take for example the United Arab Emirates, and more specifically the city of Dubai. Players there seem to be having a high Ping issue that is causing their gameplay time to seriously go down.
This was brought to light by Battle.net user Demoniscious, who noted on the forum that a high Ping issue was plaguing players in Dubai, and making it the biggest problem they’ve had in the game since launch.
“Whenever we play on Americas the ping either go high at 150 ping ms+ (at worst 280 ping) and rarely get 80 ping ms, it may sound as Americas would be the best choice here but in most cases 8 out 10 matches we get the 150+ ping ms… and sometimes even never get the 80 ping ms at all.”
For those who don’t know, Ping refers to how the latency between the players computer and the server the game is playing on. If the Ping is low, that means there’s little to no latency and thus no lag. But the higher it goes, the more latency, and more lag. Lag in games like Overwatch can be deadly in-game, so no one wants high Ping, which is why this problem is a severe one.
The other Battle.net players were very supportive of this, and added how there should be servers in that region so that the Ping problem wouldn’t be a problem anymore.
“Yes! this is a problem that needs a solution,” said Alberto.
It’ll be very interesting to watch and see what gets done to solve this issue. As in many things concerning Overwatch, it’s all up to Blizzard.
