Thor: Ragnarok

The Thor movies hold an interesting place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the first one was well received, its sequel received some mixed reactions. Not to mention the films have been on the lower side of the box office grossing table. Furthermore, it’s been years since the last Thor solo film, he’s only been in the Avengers since, not counting a Doctor Strange Cameo. However, the third time could be the charm with Thor: Ragnarok.

The third film in the franchise is taking the prince of Asgard to some very far off places, and is a status quo change in many big ways, as the trailer below shows. So take a look at it, because we’re going to discuss what we see below.

Yeah, that’s a lot to comprehend. First off, that was Hela, who is the antagonist for the film if that’s not obvious, and it’s clear she has a lot of power if she’s able to not only incinerate Asgard but crush Mjolnir with one hand!

This, of course, leads to Thor being blasted to another world, and being captured and forced to fight in a gladiator put run by the Grandmaster, played by Jeff Goldblum. Oh, and yes, that is the actual Incredible Hulk, and yes, Thor did just say, “He’s a friend from work!”

There’s a lot of other character reveals here, including Karl Urban as Skurge the Executioner, and the first look at Valkyrie as well, who is apparently a servant of the Grandmaster. But, there are returning faces as well, including Loki, and Heimdall.

It’s going to be very interesting to see how this film plays out not only storywise (as this will no doubt cause ripples that’ll affect how Thor is in Infinity War”) but how it’ll be received by fans and critics when Thor: Ragnarok arrives in theaters on November 3rd.
