The Withering is a game set in a post-apocalyptic world and features not only turn-based management, but also action and simulation aspects as well. In this game, the world has been mostly wiped out by a viral infection, and with only 10% of the population left, things are getting grim. What’s worse, a sequence of events are threatening to wipe out the rest of humanity. You must manage a group of survivors to ensure they don’t die. The game has been on Steam Early Access for a while, and has gotten a new update that seeks to add to the depth of the game.

The main focus of The Withering’s 2.0.0.2 update is the Melee Combat, which is a key mechanic in the 3rd-person exploration and action elements in the game. Now you’ll be able to battle enemies in the Early Access version of the game now because of this update. You can even change the stance of your character based on what you want to do.

You will only have one weapon for now, and death won’t affect you nor give you penalties for doing so. Feel free to truly test out what they combat can do in the game.

Furthermore, this update gives players the chance to try out some new settings for both the graphics and the audio. You can now better adjust the effects and graphics to match the screen, as well as raise or lower the audio based on what you want. Players can expect more adjustments of this to come in the next update.

As for what else may come next, The Withering will be adding gunplay next, and the team is currently working on the control scheme for it. They note that it will be similar to Melee Combat in many aspects. If The Withering sounds like something you want to help grow, you can still join the Early Access Beta for it.
