Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars is a true rarity. It’s because of its overall quality that I couldn’t resist doing a brief discussion of my thoughts on the game. Today, it was re-released in the Wii U Eshop.
This game paved new roads for Nintendo. The typical cartoon-ish antics of the plumber were replaced with action packed battles and well built worlds. Few games, especially during that era could achieve such a feat.
Super Mario RPG introduced some of the most interesting environments in Mario history. From its classic medieval representation of the Mushroom Kingdom, to its sunken ship filled with pirate warriors, it was a new adventure for Mario, but for us as well.
Few games offer the ability to bring a begrudging Bowser along on a mission to save his honor as well. Even Princess Peach got to step up and play the role of traditional healer.
This RPG was developed mostly by Square Enix, so it’s no wonder that it takes all of the great qualities of 1990s RPGs and adds that platforming quirk to them. Super Mario has been described as a fix all, but it’s more than that. This was a leap in the right direction, and one that all Wii U owners should definitely consider playing.
