Battlefront II

What made the original Battlefront games (for the PS2) so special was that not only did we go deeper into the universe of the Star Wars films and get new and familiar looks at the battles that defined the history of everything, but we also got to do it through a unique set of eyes. We got to do it as either a Republic Soldier, a droid of the Federation, a Rebel, or an Imperial Soldier. DICE’s Battlefront II keeps that alive, and on the PlayStation Blog, they detailed one of the classes that’ll return once again: The Heavy Trooper.

Of the four potential classes, the Heavy Trooper is the one you use if you want to bring the pain and the power. You will be the one that can hold the line while your teammates are trying something else. It’ll be you who tries to bulldoze their way to an objective point because you’re the one who can take the damage and keep on going.

What’s more, Battlefield II is maintaining some of the skills that made the Heavy Trooper so successful as a unit. Both the Imperial and Trader Federation Heavy Trooper will have a Combat Shield, which will you advance while taking fire, and Sentry, a mode of combat where you’ll have slow movement but have a fast firing blaster.

Tactics and classes are going to be even more important in Battlefield 2. EA and DICE have improved upon what they started in the original, and they want this to be the best Battlefront ever.

The game will go into beta on October 6th, with all classes being available for you to test. Then on November 17th, the game will launch. Let us know which class you think will be the one you’ll be! Heavy Trooper? Or something else?
