If there was ever a series that shouldn’t work as a video game series…it’s South Park. The crude and politically relevant/bashing show has made quite the name for itself over two decades on Comedy Central (among other places). And yet, it’s tried to make it way to the video game world before, with limited success. But then, South Park: The Stick of Truth came out, and it blew all of our minds with its deep RPG gameplay and story. Then, came South Park: The Fractured But Whole, which only added to the “epicness”.
Now, while stories in South Park are made to be controversial, South Park: The Fractured But Whole did go for a somewhat deep storyline. It’s one that centers around the South Park crew becoming superheroes to make money, as well as stop evil…but mainly make money. A fan video decided to break down the “entire lore” of the game, you can check it below.
Yeah, that seems accurate, and it goes to show just how simple South Park can be, and yet, it still delivers a deep RPG experience, just with a superhero twist this go around. Despite the long delays, South Park: The Fractured But Whole has done really well sales wise. What’s more, because it bundled The Stick of Truth with its in certain editions, a physical release for The Stick of Truth is now coming for Xbox One and PS4. That goes to show how many people want to play it on their current systems.
What’s more, there are even rumors that The Fractured But Whole could make its way onto the Nintendo Switch, which would certainly make it one of the “most adult” games on the system (the others being Doom, Skyrim, and the upcoming Bayonetta ports and sequel).
