When it comes to video games, the hype leading up to them is critical, as the hype can many times lead to big sales. One of the best, and probably easiest ways to do this is through game trailers. From simple reveal trailers, to trailer showing off story or gameplay, these are quick looks into the world, and often help tempt players to buy these games. In fact, some of my favorite games of all time were bought simply because of the trailers I saw on either TV, a demo console, or on a website. To honor the year of gaming in 2016, Sony went to their blog to reveal their favorite trailers of the year.
It should be noted, that these games are not just personal favorites, but the trailers that were most viewed on the Sony Youtube Channel. So it’s not random, nor solely personal.
First, was Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s reveal trailer, praising the team for a crisp and beautifully cut piece.
Next were games Days Gone, Death Stranding, and Detroit: Becoming Human, titles that were praised for their visuals, as well as the mysteries of what is going on in the games themselves.
After that was Doom (a favorite of many this year), Final Fantasy XV ( a GOTY candidate for many despite its late release), God of War’s return trailer, the new game Horizon: Zero Dawn, Injustice 2, The Last Guardian (which did finally release in November) The Last of Us: Part 2, Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite, Nioh, a short from Overwatch, the Spider-Man game coming from Insomniac, and finally, Uncharted: Lost Legacy.
