Horizon: Zero Dawn was a very interesting title that debuted at E3 back in 2015. It blended fantasy and sci-fi in a very interesting way, and people have been wanting to hear more about it for some time, only getting teases and snippets though.
However, the game got a big spotlight recently, and everyone is pitching in to talk about the title. Including Sony, for which the game will be exclusive, as it’s being made by Sony in-house developer Guerrilla Games. First off, the game is set in a world of humans, but a world that has been taken over by machines. You play as Aloy, a woman who lives in this world, and must hunt these machines to survive. Among other things.
This is actually where the open-world RPG aspects of the game come into play. But fighting and hunting these machine creatures, you can collect resources, and upgrade both yourself (via skills and boosts), but also your weapons. Aloy is shown most often with her bow and arrow combination, but there’s also plenty of firearms too. Not to mention mechanical traps that can be forged to make something that no machine can take.
Further adding to the RPG flair is a skill tree, a relic you find early on that can give you info about your foes and help you focus in battle, and NPC’s that’ll give you various sidequests where you gather materials and grow even more. There’s even massive machines call Tallneck’s that you can jump on and scale, and then hack to get more info about the world around Aloy. These can also reveal interesting things on the map that you might have missed on your first trek through.
As shown via stills, the world of Horizon: Zero Dawn is beautiful, and uses the PS4 graphics to its fullest. You’ll be able to see just how beautiful when the game arrives February 28th.
