SMITE’s latest patch stirred up the game’s community quite a lot, and they’re really not happy with some of these nerfs.
The main thing that’s being discussed is the nerf to Bellona’s Scourge ability. The cooldown got increased, which made a lot of people angry since it looks like she got quite a lot of nerfs already, so this one was uncalled for, or at least that’s what the community thinks. It got a buff to its damage to compensate, but the players still don’t think that the nerf was needed.
Another thing with this nerf is the indirect buff to Gods that are countered by Bellona. That’s just how balancing works, if you nerf a God that’s picked to counter other Gods, then those Gods receive a buff, and that’s exactly what’s happening here. Hunter Gods and Freya are the ones who are receiving a buff, since Bellona counters them, but since this nerf may put her out of the game as a viable choice, those Gods will be then picked more often. And that’s a really bad thing, as those Gods already appear to be quite powerful in Smite’s current meta.
Fenrir got a buff, but it’s rather inconsequential since he’s a God that has lifesteal that’s ultimately useless, since he can’t stick to his targets without specific itemization.
Players got really mad with both the unnecessary nerf to Bellona and the useless buff on Fenrir, so they’re trying to get Hi-Rez Studios to listen to them. After all, developers should listen to their fans!
