There are many cases in video game history that resulted in a “What if?” question being asked. For example, what if Sony and Nintendo did work together instead of branching out? What if certain video games never came out? Or on the flip side, “What would it have been like if certain teased games actually got made?” One of the biggest cases in that last one is Silent Hills. Konami tasked legendary designer and writer Hideo Kojima to remake the Silent Hill franchise. And he brought in Norman Reedus and Guillermo Del Toro to make it happen.
But…then Konami fired Kojima and Silent Hills never saw the light of day outside of a P.T. build (aka playable teaser or playthrough). What was the saddest about this was the fact that the P.T. was pretty detailed and scary, fans couldn’t help but play it. Yet, after the fallout with Kojima, Konami revoked the P.T., so you couldn’t download it and try it for yourself and try to picture what the full game would’ve been like.
As they say though, you can’t keep a good game down, or, in this case, fans of the game down. Some very loyal fans went to Unreal Engine 4 and completely remade the P.T. build. You can check it out below.
If you want to play it for yourself, you can do so via Gamejolt.
The fan behind the game took data from the PS4 build and used it to recraft the P.T. build, it’s actually pretty impressive. Yes, it’s only a demo, and thus not a full-length game, but hey, at least it’s something. And the guy is even making improvements with it to ensure that the demo is as good as it can be.
We’ll never likely see what this game would’ve been like in full, but hey, with this demo, the “What if?” is now even stronger.
