Despite Rocket League’s overwhelming success and popularity, there is one major issue that is holding it back.
As someone who has worn rose-tinted glasses when it comes to the soccer-car hybrid sensation, even as a massive fan of the game its hard to hold back when it comes to what an absolute mess the servers are.
Ever since an update a while back, for me the servers have been almost unplayable for several games at a time, with the ping coming in at around 200 on far too many occasions. When this issue first began, there was part of me that thought “Hmm, maybe there’s an issue with my own internet,” yet it has since been a common grievance for many Rocket League players.
Take fans on Reddit for example, who have taken to the platform to question whether it would be better to not search for games in virtual servers. In these situations, there are players that are deeming the servers “unplayable” and taking many “to the point where it’s not worth playing.”
This is a shame to hear, without a doubt. But it is something that exists and drastically needs fixing. Given that there are timed bans for those who quit early, where does the pay off come from? You either exit from poor connection and get banned from matchmaking temporarily, or sit there and watch in horror as the poor connection deceives you at every turn.
