Riot Games Release Special League of Legends Animations

What does it take to truly make a character for League of Legends? This is the question that many LoL players have been asking for years, and Riot Games has given a variety of answers. It’s a complex subject, one that takes many forms, and has evolved into a process that to this day isn’t a set thing. It’s more than just coming up with an idea for a character. They have to draw them, bring them to life, and make them shine in a way that will resonate with players.

Because of that, developer Riot Games acknowledges that some of the work that goes into these characters gets totally absorbed into the design process, to the extent that they’ll likely never see the light of day. Until today. On their site, Riot Games revealed the birth of the League Animation Workshop, a true behind-the-scenes look at how far some of their team goes to deliver the feel of the characters in League of Legends.

What does that mean? Well, as the team works to make the final character, there are animators who work hard on small scenes or pieces that show the character in action. Think of it like a character trailer, but on a smaller and more rough scale. They’re created to show to the team, and not necessarily the world, as that’s not the intent. At least, not until now.

Now, you’ll get to see these animations via the League Animation Workshop, where new animations featuring various League of Legends characters will be shown off to the world. The first one featuring Miss Fortune can be seen above, with the next one focusing on Zed.

Again, some of these are simple, some are just fight scenes, but some do delve into something deeper. So with each one, you might be surprised at what is shown, and why the animators made it.
