When you create a big world or universe, regardless of what medium it’s in, you want to show it off in as many ways as possible. For some, like in video games, developing this world via different styles or mediums can actually help flesh out the area, characters, or whatever else in a way that the main game can’t. This is the exact approach that Riot Games did with League of Legends. Their MOBA is set in a big world that doesn’t always show off their characters in unique ways, so they try and branch out when developing the characters.

By “branching out,” they mean that they don’t just do concept art of the characters, they do little animations that aren’t meant to see the light of day but are meant to inspire the team and push them forward in how they develop the characters. But, after doing this in-house for so long, they decided to show off these very special League of Legends animations.

The first one featured Miss Fortune, but since then, three new animations have been released. Each one shows off a different style that was meant to capture the feeling of the characters. For example, the one above shows off Zed, the assassin and warrior of shadows. The style here was meant to show off his skills in-game, as well as be as dark and gritty as he is. Then, the one below is of Darius, which just shows that you don’t have to have an action scene to prove how epic a character can be.

Finally, there’s this beautiful hand-drawn piece showing off Lux, which was done to give a new animator a chance to shine (pun intended) and the result speaks for itself.

More videos like these will be coming out, and we’ll keep you informed of when they do! But let us know which of these League of Legends videos is your favorite!

I am a writer, reader, dreamer, and believer that games and cartoons and comics aren't a bad way to live. I am passionate about what I love, but do respect the opinions of others when they conflict with my own. But if you don't like Nintendo, you're going down! lol
