A fact about MMORPGs that often goes over people’s heads is that, although the game worlds are filled with player characters, many times it wouldn’t mean anything if there weren’t special NPC characters that help drive the story forward, or at the very least help define the lore of the world. These characters have a special place in the game as they can be someone you look up to, someone you should fear, or someone you’d want to know more about. Revelation Online seems to know this, and thus they’re detailing what’s arguably one of the most important characters in their game: Shinji.

Shinji is the future king of the realm. Yeah, he’s that important. Yet he is also a character that is burdened by his destiny, for as a future ruler, all his decisions will be met with scrutiny even if they are the right ones. Despite this burden, Shinji often tries to maintain a level head when dealing with people, as well as keeping an open mind about things brought to his attention. Good qualities for a future king.

Adding to the curiosity surrounding Shinji is that he will be ruler soon because his father is missing. Instead of trying to take the throne in his disappearance, Shinji is trying desperately to find his father even when there are no clues to be followed. This earned him a lot of respect, but it also got him many detractors too.

There are some who believe that a soft heart cannot run the throne, and it looks as though the kindness and open-minded personality of Shinji are giving people that perception of him.

Regardless, no matter what happens to him in life, or in Revelation Online, you can bet that any path Shinji follows is of his own choosing.
