DC Comics and the team at NetherRealm Studios have always had a fun relationship, it’s what led to Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe. And then DC gave them permission to make the Injustice games; fighting games with a narrative focused on an Elseworld where Superman became corrupt with power after the loss of Lois Lane. In Injustice 2, the world is still reeling from the events of the original game, and new players are coming to the field. Some more special than others.
Since its launch, we’ve known that we’d get even more characters via DLC, and now, we’re on Fighter Pack 2 where Black Manta (from DC Comics), Hellboy (from Dark Horse), and Raiden (Mortal Kombat) are coming. And as is tradition, NetherRealm has released a gameplay trailer for them, the latest one being for Raiden, the God of Thunder.
So moving beyond the fact that this version of Raiden summons a lightning version of the Mortal Kombat logo to attack foes, Raiden has a plethora of powerful attacks, many of which resemble his moveset in the Mortal Kombat games. He can use his lightning to stun and stop foes in their tracks, use it in close or long-range strikes, he can teleport, use area-of-effect attacks, and more. There’s a reason he’s the protector of Earth Realm.
But what many didn’t expect was that Black Lighting was also in the trailer. Now, because this is the Raiden trailer, many think that he’s going to be an alternate skin, not unlike how Jon Stewart (complete with Phil Lamar voice) is an alternate skin to Green Lantern. Though it does appear that Black Lightning has a few different attacks from Raiden.
Either way, this is going to be a very fun character to use when he arrives in Injustice 2 in October.
