Technology has allowed for several innovations to take place in video games. From improved graphics, to motion controls, to being able to play video games without needing a dedicated TV, and much more. A more recent advance that players have enjoyed is the idea of cross-play. So much so that players of Elder Scrolls Online are weighing to see if it should happen.
Cross-play simply means that players of the console versions or the PC versions of video games could battle people on another system. This has happened with certain games in the past, such as Rocket League, but it’s still a relatively new thing. Very few have adapted it because of the technical struggles that could happen.
But, that’s not stopping Elder Scrolls Online players from asking the question themselves. Do they think playing with players from other consoles or PC is something Zenimax should look into? A poll was even set up to see what players thought about it.
The camps are very divided at present. On one hand, those who are for it agree that it could work if done right (isn’t that always the case?), mainly in regards to how the cross-play would flow, and affect how they’re playing the game personally. After all, though cross-play would be nice all around, if it affects personal experience, what’s the point?
Which brings us to the naysayers, who are very fair in noting that cross-play on an MMO of the scale of Elder Scrolls Online could literally destroy the servers, and ensure NO ONE gets a chance to cross-play. This goes especially for the PC side of the cross play, as those gamers often have higher requirements in order to play on their computers, and that could cause problems.
And, some just think it won’t happen full-scale because of the rivalry between Sony and Microsoft. Why help each other? What do you think should happen? Should Elder Scrolls Online get cross-play? Or stick to what it’s been doing? Let us know in the comments below.
