There’s been a lot of rumors concerning the possibility of Fable 4 happening. In fact, the dominant rumors state that PlayGround Games is the team that will be making the fourth true installment in the franchise. This is interesting for many reasons, not the least of which is that Fable hasn’t been popular for many years, and the main three installments were met with high expectations, but disappointing results. Yet, the game still aims to be made, and the series creator, Peter Molyneux, is quite fine with that.
In fact, he talked with IGN about what he thinks Fable 4 could have, including where in the timeline he feels it should take place:
“The Fable story hinted at a dramatic time before Fable 1 when the Guild was founded, this would be a perfect setting for Fable 4,” Molyneux said, noting “the land of Albion would be much more primitive, the magic much more attuned to nature, the combat much more brutal.”
Speaking of combat, Molyneux notes that he feels the combat should be very specialized and tailored to different weapons. Noting that he’d “love to see brutal, visceral and fluid combat system that left permanent scars. Weapons like short swords, long swords, daggers, spears, longbows and crossbows all having a there own combat feel and specialties.”
It’s certainly in the realm of possibility, as Fable has often been an action and RPG franchise. So, with the new technology of the modern age, it’s more than possible, it’s very probable.
As for what we know about Fable 4 outside of the studio hiring, word is that the game will be a massive action RPG of sorts, one that truly focuses on character. What’s more, many big names were hired by PlayGround to help make the game. This includes members of Ninja Theory, DICE, and more.
