How a console is defined is paramount to getting people to try and play it. If it’s viewed as the “ultimate graphics machine” then players will want to see the best graphics ever. If it’s defined as a “motion-controlled experience” then players will want to see if motion controls are worth their time. For Nintendo and the Nintendo Switch, the way they promoted the machine was simple, it was a console that you could take anywhere. Play it in your house, then take it to your friends house, or play it in the car, on a train, on a plane! Wherever you want.
It was a simple yet elegant description that left everyone floored. No longer were we confined to certain spaces of the house or apartment or wherever to play our video games, we could take it anywhere! Sure enough, Nintendo lived up to their promise, and we can indeed take the Nintendo Switch anywhere. But do we actually do it?
This question comes from Reddit via user shadowsaberXD, who asks if people actually take their Nintendo Switch’s outside:
“Like I’m talking outdoors for a stroll, not on a building, but actually outside.”
This is an interesting question when you think about it, because it speaks to the personality of the gamer. For example, shadowsaberXD is thinking about taking it to the beach, but is worried that it could be stolen, or hurt by the sun, sand, or the water. So he wonders if others take it outside.
Funnily enough, there’s a bit of a divide in the answers he got. There are those who state they haven’t had their Switch outside the house since they bought it on March 3rd. Others say they have, but they make sure the sun isn’t shining on the console, as it makes the game they’re playing impossible to view.
A vast majority though noted he shouldn’t take it to the beach, to preserve the console naturally. Do you take your Switch outside? Let us know in the comments below.
