Balance issues are a constant problem in games like Overwatch, where every hero need improvements via buffs, or need to be taken down a peg via nerfs. Blizzard does its best to keep things balanced, and often tries to make sure there aren’t any glaring abnormalities, yet the community seems to find them…a lot.
So, who’s today’s “hero in need”? It’s Ana, but not for the reason you’re thinking. Usually, a character is in desperate need of fixing because of an overwhelming trait or fallibility. But with Ana, it’s that she’s balanced so well, that’s basically overpowered.
This comes from Battle.net Overwatch player Curator, who lists out the ways that Ana is balanced, but overpowered. In short, she has no weakness, and is “balanced” for the average player by having large hit boxes. Which is fine, until very experienced players get a hold of her, and then she’s basically an essential part of any team she’s on.
Plus, because of how she’s built, she has a high healing factor which makes her kind of indestructible when you’re playing with a high enough skill level. Add that to her spray-and-pray ability thanks to her aiming, and she’s a tank according to Curator.
The user makes numerous comparisons to characters like Widowmaker and Hanzo, who kinda/sorta have these kinds of stats, but with weaknesses, and a certain amount of skill to play well, versus Ana who is “made for” the average player, but once they’re not average anymore, they’re a tank.
The suggested solution is to simply adjust her healing ability, and maybe do something with the aiming function. What do you think? How should Overwatch and Blizzard handle this? Or should they at all? Let us know in the comments below!
