When you’re the best at something, you’d like to know it. To that end, many video games have leaderboards and various other kinds of ranking systems to try and show who is the best around. For Overwatch, the Top 500 List shows just that, with a list of the best 500 competitive players in the game. With there being millions of players who do many matches combined, if you make it on the list, you deserve it. But is there a problem with a single person being on that list more than once?
Now, more than once could mean that a person has created an alternate account (a legal one) and has played that one so much that the account is also recognized in the Top 500 List. So, technically one person can be on the list twice if they work hard enough. Despite this being valid, some Overwatch players aren’t too fond of the practice, such as Reddit user sysadminale, who notes:
“There are guys who belong in the top 500 but are probably pushed out because of smurfs.”
He is right about one thing, these duplicate accounts do make it so that other single account people don’t make the list, and a lot of Reddit users think that this is a problem and that Blizzard should do something about it. But, they also lament that they know Blizzard won’t do anything about it.
However, the other side of the coin has just as much support among the Reddit community. In their eyes, if one person is able to make the list with two different accounts, and keep it there, that’s worthy of respect.
“If they can reach top 500 with multiple accounts and maintain them in top 500 you got to give them some respect that’s is not something even the majority of grand master players can do,” notes xingx35.
These players are working to get these multiple accounts onto this Overwatch list, and are also working to keep them there, which is no small feat. So while it may not be entirely fair, it’s hard to deny their claim if they can do it twice or more.
