One of the things that online gaming has brought video games is the chance to battle against others from all over the world in a variety of contests. But for many gamers, the greatest ones are the ones that are about true tests of skill, where victories and losses can be shown and ascending the ladder of gaming greatness if the ultimate reward. For Overwatch players, that’s called Competitive Play, and Blizzard has revealed that the 5th season of this mode is back for those who qualify. It’s time to test yourselves once more.
For those who are unaware, Competitive Play unlocks for you in Overwatch once you reach level 25, and it’s truly meant to be a competition of the best players in the game. But it also lets you determine how you play, as you can do a solo match against another player, or work in a group to show off your team skills. Furthermore, the game will also try and match you with an opponent that is equal to you in level and skill.
How does it do this? Well, you’ll have to play 10 placement matches, then Overwatch will determine how you do and give you a rating from 1-5000, and will also be placed into tiers. From them on, your goal will be to fight to improve your skill level until you’re the best in the game.
Wins and losses most definitely matter in Overwatch Competitive Play, for how you fight, and how you win/lose determines how your skill level is affected. If you lose a close match? It may not fall as much. If you dominate your opponent? It’ll get a good jump. And of course, you’ll get a plethora of rewards for doing well in Competitive Play, allowing you to get special items and weapons depending on how well you have done.
The fifth season is live right now on all platforms that have Overwatch, if you’re ready to prove you’re the best in the game, then head on over.
