In video games, as in life, the smallest things can help make something great, or make it terrible. A terrible story will make you dread cutscenes. A gameplay bug will make you want to stop playing, and so on and so forth. Even in the greatest of the games, there’s often something that weighs it from being a true magnificent experience. Or, there’s just something that really annoys you. For a bunch of Overwatch players, that thing is crosshairs.
To be clear, we mean gun crosshairs, as in the reticle that can help you line up you shot if you want. But in Overwatch, the crosshair that people have to use isn’t ideal for many. On the official forums, user PiyRe noted how when compared to games like Counter-Strike Global Offensive, the crosshair just isn’t that good.
“I want a crosshair where the middle is not obscured (So dot and circle dont work well), but the classic 4 point crosshair in OW is way too big and the center hole is impossible to see through.”
Small issue? Nitpicking? Maybe, but he does have a point. If the crosshair actually obscures your target as you’re trying to kill it, that might hurt you in the long run. So what is the solution? Well, a bunch of Overwatch players weighed in on this and noted that they’d love to have some customization when it came to the crosshairs. Some even recommended a Team Fortress 2 approach to it by giving players the ability to adjust size, shape, the thickness of the lines, and even the color. Some have even claimed to have wanted this since closed beta.
And guess what? They just might get it. As Overwatch Director Jeff Kaplan hopped onto the forum and said, “This seems pretty straightforward. We’ll see if we can get this done.”
So there you go! Asked and answered. When will this arrive? And in what capacity? Well, it’s up to the team. But this is another case of Blizzard listening to its fans.
