One of the major complaints from the Overwatch community is the amount of players throwing games, disconnecting purposely and just overall trolling. What could go towards fixing this would be giving players even more incentive to play the game, regardless of which game mode they were playing.
In a discussion on the topic on Reddit, a quote from Jeff Kaplan is used, citing one of his regrets about the game:
“I’ll say something even more controversial. I wish we would’ve never added any cosmetic items to Competitive. I think the people playing Competitive should only be there because they really care about playing in Competitive mode, and they want to rise through the tiers – that’s who I think belongs in Competitive.”
There are benefits to taking away competitive cosmetic items, or rather make them available for players who don’t play competitively. The post puts forward the idea of replacing the current competitive points system for a “Victory” points system, which would allow players to earn points towards the items that are available to competitive players.
A way of it working would mean offering quick play players the chance of earning points towards these cosmetics, and could even put them at a lesser rate than competitive, so that way competitive players aren’t being punished, and casual players have the chance to grind towards earning some previously unobtainable items.
Do you think this would work, or should the system be left as it is? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
