Overwatch – Jeff Kaplan’s Biggest Regret, And How it Could Be Fixed

One of the major complaints from the Overwatch community is the amount of players throwing games, disconnecting purposely and just overall trolling. What could go towards fixing this would be giving players even more incentive to play the game, regardless of which game mode they were playing.

In a discussion on the topic on Reddit, a quote from Jeff Kaplan is used, citing one of his regrets about the game:

“I’ll say something even more controversial. I wish we would’ve never added any cosmetic items to Competitive. I think the people playing Competitive should only be there because they really care about playing in Competitive mode, and they want to rise through the tiers – that’s who I think belongs in Competitive.”

There are benefits to taking away competitive cosmetic items, or rather make them available for players who don’t play competitively. The post puts forward the idea of replacing the current competitive points system for a “Victory” points system, which would allow players to earn points towards the items that are available to competitive players.

A way of it working would mean offering quick play players the chance of earning points towards these cosmetics, and could even put them at a lesser rate than competitive, so that way competitive players aren’t being punished, and casual players have the chance to grind towards earning some previously unobtainable items.

Do you think this would work, or should the system be left as it is? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

  1. If this happens it would be the best thing for the concept of playing competitive mode. What Jeff has said regarding playing competitive mode is 10000% right. It’s not just to “yeh I can play overwatch & my SR is this in competitive mode” it’s players that are worrying bout doing everything else in a competitive game bar helping contributing for their team to get the win.. I experience these type of players in every fukn complete game I’m in & it is so damn frustrating witnessing it & having to succumb to defeat because of it. Your powerless & there’s nothing u can do bout it to fix it or atleast change the situation that will ly ahead at the end of the game, thats really hurtful. I only play competitive for that same reason what Jeff has explained to put myself my skills n abilities on the line against another player some where out there for the true nature n reason of it ” to be as competitive as I can to survive each n every moment I’m confronted by the enemy n make sure I can survive the situation n move on closer to victory with the team the same bloody way if it was n is in a real life situation” that’s wat competitive mode is all about but in real life video game concept. If it’s jus to play the game in playing overwatch then they’ve got u covered for that but if u like to be more strenuous serious bout u gameplay then competitive mode is there for u. If ur not of a competitive nature player then please jus fuk off n stay out our game’s for the sake of playing a video game. It’s not that hard to understand if uve got something between ur ears..
