Overwatch is one of the most popular game of the last few years, and because of its potential, gamers have been asking for more and more new game modes to play in. While Blizzard has been hesitant about some, they have grown the base of the game quite a bit. However, players have been asking for one game mode in particular to be put into the game: Deathmatch. And now, after so much waiting, Blizzard has released a video saying that Deathmatch is coming to the Arcade in Overwatch.

This comes right from the Director of the game, Jeff Kaplan, who explains that Deathmatch wasn’t put into the game originally, or within the first year, because they felt it didn’t match the style of the title. But then, when Arcade launched for Overwatch, it opened things up a bit, allowing for serious consideration for the mode to actually happen. And now, it is indeed happening, with a twist or two of course.

Mainly, there will be a free-for-all mode in Deathmatch, where your kills are the only ones that matter. You’ll battle against 6 other players on modified maps that are suited to the Deathmatch style. And there will also be an all-new map custom-built for Deathmatch that is the home of Widowmaker. Kaplan explained that the map is in France, and is the home of her family estate.

And yes, there will be Team Deathmatch, where you will have 6v6 matches to try and get to 30 points first. So you’ll need to be good teammates while also raking up the kills to support your team.

As Kaplan notes at the end, this new mode proves that you should “never say never” in Overwatch, as there was no intention to put this mode in the game, but now it is going to be in it. No confirmed release date for Deathmatch yet.
