The video game world is a constantly shifting place, not just for the games and the studios that are there, but for the people that work in the places that make the games. Sometimes, the biggest moves aren’t what games are made, but rather the people making and overseeing them. Experience can help a person get moved around, and can help another brand thrive because of the work they’ve done in other places. Take for example OtherSide Entertainment, who revealed today that they’ve hired industry veteran Walter Somol to join the studio as their new VP of Marketing and Business development.
Somol is indeed a veteran, as he’s worked for two major publishers/developers in the past. Most recently, he worked at Harmonix (known for Guitar Hero among other things) where he served as a product managers, a marketing manager, and even part of the strategic partnership group. Before that, he worked at Xbox where he was instrumental in getting developers to work with the company and develop games for them.
“I’m thrilled to have Walter on board,” said OtherSide Entertainment founder and CEO Paul Neurath. “He brings more than a decade of experience at the executive level.”
OtherSide Entertainment is an indie studio that has only launched 3 games so far. However, one of those games is Underworld Overlord, which is one of the highest rated games on the Daydream VR platform. Furthermore, they’re going to be one of the developers on System Shock 3. So bringing in a veteran like Somol is big for them and no doubt will help influence their success in the future.
“I’m very excited to join Paul, Warren Spector and the rest of the talented team at OtherSide,” said Walter Somol.
