2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the Blizzard dungeon crawler Diablo, and they are celebrating the occasion by bringing back the first Diablo game to Diablo 3.
As part of a patch for the Reaper of Souls add-on, Diablo 3 players will be introduced to the “Darkening of Tristam” along with the game’s original graphics, style and gameplay. This will consist of a 16-level dungeon for any of your characters to battle through, including fighting against the four main bosses from the first game, culminating with battling Diablo himself at the bottom. This update will be introduced as early as next week as part of the Public Test Realm.
In addition to this, Blizzcon 2016 has also revealed that the Necromancer class will be coming to Diablo 3. This will be a paid add-on and will require the Reaper of Souls edition of Diablo 3 in order to play it. The reimagining of the Diablo 2 class will be available, along with two new areas at some point, in 2017. Battle.net describes the Necromancer as “The Priests of Rathma—or necromancers, as outsiders call them—have long remained shrouded in mystery. Deep within the jungles of Kehjistan, they train to preserve the delicate balance between the forces of life and death. Now Sanctuary has need of their unique power, and the Priests of Rathma will answer.”
