Old School Runescape – Catacombs of Kourend Opened

In the darkest depths of Zeah, a series of winding tunnels twisted by the influence of the dark altar, known as the Catacombs of Kourend, may now be accessed. Brave (and foolish) adventurers who wishes to enter the catacombs must ‘investigate’ the large statue located in the center of the city. Four additional entrances/exits may be unlocked after utilizing them once from within the catacombs.

OSRS - Catacombs of Kourend

Upon entering the catacombs, adventurers will notice both old and new monsters. A complete list of the monsters within the catacombs is produced below for your convenience. It’s worth noting that the ‘new’ monsters are twisted versions of familiar monsters. The new versions have the same behaviors as their normal counterparts, but have higher stats and better loot.

Old and familiar monsters within the catacombs:

  • Abyssal Demon
  • Black Demon
  • Greater Demon
  • Lesser Demons
  • Dust Devil
  • Dark Beast
  • Fire Giant
  • Dagannoth
  • Bronze Dragon
  • Iron Dragon
  • Steel Dragon
  • Hellhounds
  • Cyclopes
  • Hill giant
  • Moss giant
  • Ankous
  • Shades
  • Ghosts
  • Skeleton
  • Animated axes & pickaxes
  • Cyclops
  • Magic axe
  • Animated Pickaxe

New, twisted versions of existing monsters:

Fortunate adventurers will discover ancient shards when defeating monsters within the Catacombs of Kourend. Three ancient shards may be imbued into the Darklight to create the ultimate demon-slaying weapon, Arclight.

OSRS - Arclight

Arclight is the best-in-slot weapon for killing demons, surpassing even the abyssal tentacle. For every three ancient shards, Arclight will gain 1,000 charges. Each attack with the Arclight will exhaust one charge. Additional, excess shards may be used on the alter in the center of the catacombs to allow easier travel within the area.

Even deeper into the Catacombs of Kourend lies an ancient and dormant beast. Adventurers who wish to slay the beast must gather dark totems to enter the inner catacombs. The beast will be released in the update next week, and will be fully covered then.

For a complete run-down of the Catacombs of Kourend, must sure to read the official post by Jagex on the Old School Runescape website. Whether you are brave or foolish, or possibly both, good luck adventurer, you’re going to need it.
