In online games, especially ones that have different modes of play, it’s not uncommon for players to gravitate to one mode or another. In fact, if there’s a ranked mode, that’s often the most popular. But because one mode is popular doesn’t mean the others aren’t used. It can mean they’re not seen as “important” and thus players don’t have to focus as much as they would in the other modes like ranked competition modes. This appears to be the case for Overwatch, as Quick Play mode is being seen as a joke by some.
This comes from Battle.net, where player BurnedBread8 (and upvoted by many players) noted how Quick Play has become not fun because no one takes it seriously:
“It’s not even a good place to get good at a hero. Because its so different from comp because no one cares.”
He mentions that many people will go into gameplay, and then leave halfway through (and there’s no penalty for doing it). What’s worse, the ones that do stay don’t work together, and thus it’s impossible to work efficiently since everyone is just doing their own thing.
What’s important to note here is that Quick Play came before competition mode, so there was a time that it was the biggest mode (more or less) in Overwatch, as everyone could just jump into a match. But now with the rise of Competition Mode, it’s become just something where Overatch players just do whatever they want.
“Ikr, i’ve been starting to play Comp to have fun instead of QP because of how utterly garbage QP has become,” lament player Andariel.
Is there a solution to this? Well, it’s honestly up to Blizzard, they would need to do something to make it more balanced and more fair, but the question is, “What?” There’s no easy answers, and that means the Overwatch community is going to have to endure this for a while.
