It would be impossible to miss the release of the latest entry in the beloved Nintendo franchise. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was a resounding success on a global scale, doing a fantastic job serving as a Nintendo Switch launch title, which has certainly helped shift copious amounts of the new console.

Its still a pretty fresh release, with new content still being added to the game. This doesn’t seem to affect the many who are wondering when we will see the next addition to the acclaimed series.

One thing I feel works in Zelda’s favor is how far apart each entry is. Nintendo (thankfully) aren’t renowned for churning out an annual release for many of its IPs, which isn’t really the news those wanting an immediate return From Link and co would want to hear. This is something that was confirmed by Breath of the Wild producer Eiji Aonuma, who stated:

“We have no plans for a future Zelda, we are still far from all this unfortunately for you. Today, I’m at a stage where I’m trying to gather a number of ideas for a sequel, but I cannot do it alone.”

He continued to reiterate how much work goes into making a Zelda game, which takes a substantial amount of time, and that they are still “far from having planned anything.”

So no new Zelda game on its way anytime soon. But before you get too glum, simply take the time to enjoy Breath of the Wild which is sure to be a classic one day, and appreciate the time it takes to create masterpieces such as seen in the Zelda franchise.
