When a new console is released, a lot of questions about it are asked. “What are the graphics?” “What are the games that are coming out for it at launch?” “What’s in the works?” For the mobile platforms, a big question is, “What is the battery life like?” For the Nintendo Switch, which is a fully mobile console, this was a very big question. And fans have had mixed reactions to what they were told the limit was.
You see, Nintendo said that depending on your settings, you could play the Nintendo Switch for 2.5+ hours. Some thought that was too low for a “mobile console”, while others thought it was fine. For Reddit User Kevinatorz, he’s actually been surprised by how much he’s gotten to play it.
“They advertised 2.5 hours of BOTW, and after playing the game for that long I still have 25% of battery left. That means I can play a very heavy console game on a portable device for over 3 hours, which I find pretty impressive.”
Now, he did note that this was in Airplane Mode, and he had brightness set to a certain setting, but still, 3 hours on a mobile console running HD graphics is impressive to many. Including many others on the Reddit thread who noted some of their longest gaming experiences with the Switch. One user got 4 hours of gameplay and still had 50% left to go.
Some admittedly have stated that they don’t get anywhere close to that. One player even noted he gets less than two hours and the Switch hums when he plays (he was referred to the Nintendo support site).
Others expressed how other battery features were a big plus for them:
“They nailed it on the one thing I wanted and that was a good sleep mode. Obviously I’d like a bigger battery but I have never had it die on me yet,” noted player Tielur.
