E3 2017 has officially begun, and yesterday many people took the stage to unveil games, content, and even a console. There were a lot of announcements, and some of them didn’t just revolve around who was on stage at the time. In fact, there were several reveals that dealt with developers or publishers who wouldn’t be on stage yet. Mainly, Nintendo. Between Saturday’s EA Play event and the conferences of Microsoft, Bethesda and Devolver Digital, there has already been some interesting Nintendo news.
For example, EA revealed what makes FIFA 18 For Nintendo Switch so special, and proved that it’s not a simple port, but rather a custom built experience to outline what makes the Switch special. Then, during the Microsoft Press Conference, they noted that Minecraft would be cross-compatible with the Switch version of the game that just came out. A first for the two systems. Then, Bethesda showed off some new details about Skyrim for Switch and noted that the game would indeed come out this year. All of these announcements are making fans very hopeful about the Nintendo Spotlight on Tuesday, take for example Reddit user Elvenhero, who states:
“If they can rapid-fire games in the Spotlight and show the gameplay during the Treehouse, they will have had a very respectable E3.”
He’s not wrong, with all the recent Nintendo Directs and the information given at these previous press conferences, Nintendo is set up to have quite a show. True, their Nintendo Spotlight is only 30 minutes long (or at least it’s rumored to be that), however, it does have the Treehouse Event right after, where Nintendo has promised some big surprises there. But will they fulfill them? It’s hard to say, and the Reddit community isn’t on board as much as ElvenHero was with his statement.
However, should they do it right, they could be the winners of E3. Sony’s press conference is today, and we’ll have to see what they have to offer too.
