With Overwatch, every single update is welcome. While the game is very popular, some could argue that it doesn’t release new things very often. Characters take a while, and maps especially have been slow to grow in the title. Yet, with each new one, players find more and more reasons to keep playing. A new map is set to arrive in Overwatch very soon, and some dataminers seem to think that more are not only on the way (which has been confirmed) but they could know what they are.
This comes from Reddit user RichardGryffon, who claims to have found something within the Overwatch files. Before you question his credibility, he was one of the people who datamined the 2017 Summer Games Icons earlier in the year, so it’s not a random thought or “find.” This may be legitimate.
Apparently, after digging around the map_source228 folders he found information about what maps are coming in 2017. The reason he truly believes this is that one of the folders details the Horizon Lunar Colony, which is the map Overwatch players are getting very soon.
Two extra possible maps were in this folder, including one called Maunganui, or possibly Mount Maunganui, which is set in New Zealand. Further digging found that this could be an escort mission, which could work given the setting of a mountain. He notes that players might have to take something up it.
The third map, and arguably the more interesting map, is one called Utopia/Utopea. Why is this interesting? Well, Overwatch character Symmetra is from Utopia, India, and has been a confirmed real place in the Overwatch universe, thus, it’s not improbably that players may get to go there.
As with all rumors, and datamines, you need to take this with a grain of salt. But it’s nice to speculate on what could be.
