Overwatch is Blizzards massively popular competitive online first-person shooter. The game, originally released in 2016, has undergone many changes since it was initially shown to the world. Today, the developers announced that a new map will be coming in the next update.
The map, called Horizon Lunar colony, is an assault map with “interesting high-ground options,” according to Game Director Jeff Kaplan. Players will be taken to the moon to fight for two different points, each with their own unique take on the traditional Overwatch game mode. There’s even a low-gravity section of the map that pairs well with its location.
“…it will allow for some of those cool player-story moments where the low-gravity is enabled and you’re out there on the surface of the moon.” – Jeff Kaplan, Game Director, Overwatch
This certainly sounds promising for fans of the competitive shooter. We caught a glimpse of what this map might look like in the Winston animated short “Recall” from last year when we flashback to baby Winston on a spaceship on the moon. Kaplan mentions in the Youtube video that the developing team hopes to give more context to this story through the environment on Horizon Lunar Colony. He even tells players that we will be able to find Winston’s room from the cinematic if we look hard enough.
This is not the only Overwatch news to be on player’s minds as of late. Overwatch’s anniversary event is currently going on and there are plenty of skins, emotes, and sprays to grind for. It only makes sense that as Overwatch reaches its one year anniversary, it comes out with a fully fledged brand new assault map with some story elements to it.
