Those who have finished or are still making their way through the weird NieR: Automata must’ve asked themselves at one point or another “what’s up with these apologetic machines?” Turns out the elevators they “guard” are part of DLC content. Titled “3C3C1D119440927,” this expansion-like DLC is set to release in Japan on May 2, with no clear date for a Western release.
The additional content will introduce the band of androids to a collection of colosseums scattered around the game world. Run against Resistance regulations, these colosseums are places where androids, YoRHa or otherwise, fight machine lifeforms in ranked matches. The quests found in each of these fighting grounds will reward 2B, 9S, and A2 with special rewards such as additional hair colors. Besides fighting machines, however, NieR: Automata is following in FINAL FANTASY XV‘s footsteps by including the CEOs of Square Enix and PlatinumGames as boss fights.
In addition to that, “3C3C1D119440927” comes packed with three costumes that those acquainted with the franchise will find familiar. The “Revealing Outfit,” meant to be worn by 2B, is a faithful replica of the garment worn by Kainé in NieR. The other two, however, might only be recognizeable by true fans who know of the existence of NieR RepliCant. The original NieR was released in Japan as two separate games, RepliCant and Gestalt. The version Westerns got is a localization of Gestalt, which features an adult protagonist. RepliCant has the protagonist as Yonah’s brother, and the outfits he wears will be available for 9S and A2 respectively under the names “Young Man’s Outfit” and “Destroyer Outfit.”
Finally, the DLC pack will also include a collection of additional cosmetics, such as masks with particular effects, new records to be used at the resistance camp’s jukebox, and items that change the appearance of enemy bullets.
NieR: Automata is now available for PlayStation 4 and Windows PC through Steam. “3C3C1D119440927” comes out on May 2 in Japan, with a Western release still be announced.
