Anyone who says the Nintendo 3DS is dead clearly doesn’t known about what’s coming for the handheld system. Several major games are coming to the 3DS in the upcoming months, the first of which is Metroid: Samus Returns, the game that shocked the world when it was revealed at the Nintendo Treehouse event at E3 2017. Nintendo has been slowly revealing news about the game, and now, they’ve revealed that a special 3DS XL is going to come out for it on the same day.
This reveal comes from the official Nintendo of America Twitter feed. As you can see, the 3DS XL has a very Metroid-style color scheme, with the red and gold of the Varia Suit. Plus, it has Samus herself in an epic pose ready to shoot down any and all who tries to stop her from completing her mission.

Metroid: Samus Returns is a full-on remake of the second Metroid game, Return of Samus, but it’s much more than that. While the team at Mercury Studios are recreating the game faithfully, they are also adding in some new twists to the title. For example, Samus is going to be getting some all-new abilities via the Aeion powers. These will give Samus the ability to scan around the area for items and important things, give her blasts a boost, and more.
What’s more, Samus for the first time will have complete 360 shooting ability, and even get the chance to counter enemies if she times things right. Metroid: Samus Returns, and its 3DS, will arrive on September 15th.
