Crytek, the developers behind the Crysis series and the famous CRYENGINE, released a teaser trailer for their newest project today. It’s called Hunt: Showdown, and while very little has actually been said about it, it seems to be a cooperative horror game. Crytek has quite the track record. With games like the Crysis series, Ryse: Son of Rome, and the original Far Cry, there’s no denying they are prevalent in the industry and if nothing else, they’ve shown diversity. It’s difficult to say much about Hunt: Showdown as there’s virtually nothing to go on, so let’s look at what we have: the trailer.
There is a website set up for the game, but it’s currently just the teaser trailer and the social media connected to the title. The trailer itself is exactly 30 seconds long and shows two silhouetted people walking slowly through some darkened woods. The text that jumps on screen reads: “When two hunters risk everything, and evil awaits unseen, the hunter becomes the hunted.” At the end of the trailer two other people appear from behind the trees and shoot these hatted silhouette dead.
There is very little text to go off of on the Crytek website, but they do mention the game a few times. On the home screen there is currently a slide for Hunt: Showdown which reads “Hunt together. Die alone.” Though this is rather ominous, it does give us a clue that this game could be cooperative. In addition, Crytek provides a little blurb about the game which goes as follows:
Face off against unearthly horrors in the forgotten corners of the world. You will hunt, and you will die. But without risk, there can be no reward, and when the water runs with blood, you’d better hope it’s not your own.
