Within each of the big three developers (Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony) lies many “in-house” developers. Meaning, that there are teams of people scattered around the world that only make games for one system, or publisher in some cases. These teams are revered in many ways, as they have made games that push the system forward, and give players reasons to look forward to upcoming games because they have their name on them. For Nintendo, one of their biggest in-house studios is Monolith Soft.
While the name may not stick in your head, the games they’ve made like do. It was them who made Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii, a cult hit that spawned a trilogy of titles and a 3DS port. Xenoblade Chronicles X was widely praised as one of the best games on the Wii U, and now, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is set to hit the Nintendo Switch later this year. But…what comes after that?
Now, it’s entirely possible that a new Xenoblade could come, but rumors of this being a trilogy have been said more times than not. Plus, a job listing by Monolith Soft says that they’re looking for a person to help with a game project that is clearly not Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
The listing is asking for someone with experience in online games. What’s more, they’re asking for someone with knowledge of medieval and fantasy genres. Add to that, the need for someone who knows the “overseas countries” in regards to pop culture and more is cited.
Again, this is clearly not last-minute help for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, so are they already planning their next game for the Switch? It’s entirely possible given that their title will be out within the first year of the consoles life, who’s to say they can’t make another big title in a few years time?
