Metal Gear Solid was one of the most legendary franchises in the history of gaming. Headed up by legendary writer Hideo Kojima, the series put you in a series of stealth missions (which didn’t always have to be stealthy) as either Solid Snake, Raiden, or Big Boss. You tried to save the world from various threats including terrorists and giant mechanical monsters called Metal Gears. But, after the “departure” of Kojima from Konami, the publisher decided to take the series in an all-new direction, one it had never gone to before. Thus was born Metal Gear Survive.
Metal Gear Survive is an action-survival title feature soldiers from Big Boss group who get transported to an alternate dimension, one full of zombie-like creatures. Now, you and your squad must compile weapons, build bases, and destroy all the hordes of monsters that seek to come your way. A 5-minute gameplay video was released today, and it shows in depth some of the things you’ll be doing from minute-to-minute and hour-to-hour.
Despite being radically different from the rest of the Metal Gear franchise, there are some interesting aspects of Metal Gear Survive. For example, you’re going to have the ability to find survivors from other wormhole breaches, ones that can help you in the long run as long as you get them back to your base. What’s more, you’ll be exploring lots of areas in search of weapons and other materials to help you get your base up to snuff to survive various attacks. The use of wormholes is also interesting, as you’ll actually be able to use them in a battle to an extent.
However, despite all this, fans are still not happy that the game is being made. The trailer currently has 7,000 downvotes to only 2,000 upvotes, and the comments section is filled with statements about how this will be the last Metal Gear game.
