Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was without a doubt one of the biggest surprises of last year. Early leaks teased it happening, but then it went silent. Then a massive leak showed images from the game, and everyone got worried. Then E3 2017 came around, video gameplay was shown, and everyone loved it. Once it released in August, the greatness was proven, and it’s become the highest third-party selling title on the Nintendo Switch, which is quite an honor.
In a recent Nintendo Direct Mini, it was revealed that the game would be getting a new character via DLC, the one and only Donkey Kong. In an interview, Creative director Davide Soliani talked about how he would be fitted into the title:
“When we first started working on Donkey Kong as a new character for a new story of Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, we started to think about how he would impact the battle system. He has big arms, so we wanted to use them extensively through the combat. And he’s a gorilla, so it makes sense for him to have more mobility options.”
Apparently, one of the other reasons that the beloved Nintendo character was put into the game was because he can be quite funny in a primal way:\
“He can also be very goofy, and that’s why his presence in the game, along with the Rabbids, allowed us to present different kinds of humorous interactions in the storytelling.”
Oh, and for those hoping you’ll get some new music via the DLC, you’ll get it from the composer who did Donkey Kong 64, so you’re in good hands. This is just the latest DLC for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, and it’s possible that more new characters could come if Donkey Kong is well received. Maybe another Rabbid would arrive? We’ll see.
