An avid cosplayer portraying a soldier from Fallout: New Vegas was nearly placed under arrest after wearing the outfit in the middle of the day when there’s no Con going on, and scaring the public into thinking that there was a terror threat.

Now to be fair, the guy in question did have a purpose for wearing said outfit. As PC Gamer notes, he was apparently going to the tailor to get his outfit better fitted for him. That’s perfectly fine…but did he have to wear it in the middle of the day? Complete with the flag that no one would recognize if they didn’t play the game flowing in the wind? That’s what we thought.

What really tripped the “threat” though was that the guy had some spray-painted Pringles cans on his back, which were misconstrued to be  bombs. So naturally the police were called.

Thankfully, once the police made contact with the guy, they were able to determine that not only was there no bomb threat, but the guy was indeed just a costumer. One of the officers on the scene, Cpl. Shawn Graham noted that he was glad that nothing bad happened because of a misinterpretation of what was actually going on.

“In the end you’ve got a good feeling after going, ‘OK, there wasn’t a bomb, there was no intent to do anything criminal, it’s just someone with their costume.”

However, he did warn people to have a little more sense when wearing their outfits, and we caution that too. Yes, some outfits are obviously outfits, but some aren’t, some can easily be misinterpreted. So if you think one day about wearing your cosplay just for a random reason, ask yourself, “Will people be afraid of what they see in any way?”
